Three a.m. ThoughtThis starts with my experience in band over the years, though it applies to choral music, as well. There are some songs that you play that are meant to be fast. And they're fun fast. Notes that just fall under your fingers, in runs and counter melodies that sound great loud. You can go too fast, though--like a spirited horse, the band plows on, afraid to slow down, enjoying the unbridled gallop. It comes through in the performance. If you've experienced it, you can hear it. Why do I bring this up? At school, right outside the tour office, a band has been rehearsing in the main theatre. They are quite good, and play all kinds of neat music, ranging from Gershwin to The Producers. Then they came to a song, I don't even know what it was, but it had a danger element to it. It was exhilarating, but made me want to cringe at the same time--they're going too fast... they're going to crash... the cringing was me waiting for the kaboom. Being that wild while playing is fun, but it's not the desired end result. You want to be fast, but controlled. To continue the horse metaphor, it's like the difference between an unbridled stallion and a properly trained and guided racehorse. Pure speed isn't going to get you very far unless you know how to control it. Okay, weird rant over. Now for some more real stuff. First of all, a public apology to those I owe e-mails too. Okay, only one person has sent me an e-mail, but I still need to reply--so sorry, Van! I wrote the e-mail twice, then once due to computer error, and again due to human error, it got swallowed by the internet. An answer will come soon. Hopefully. -_^ Eeep, gotta sleep before the sun rises! /me dives into bed Labels: Random :: Kazen @ Always Doing 2:09 AM [+] :: :: ... 1 comments

:: Monday, July 11, 2005 :: Bhairavi's Birthday! And she let me take her picture without running away! Here she is with her free margarita at Bomber's... It's huge! This one wasn't a frozen one, so it was even bigger than mine. To give an idea of exactly how big, Bhairavi held her hand right up to it: And on top of that I got my own drink. Here it is empty: Needless to say, we were a little tipsy getting home. And to think I have work tomorrow. @_@ Time to show off some of my current crochet! Here's a doily I just finished, called Mocha from Leisure Arts' Coffee n' Cream book. It's not blocked or anything, so it's still a little wavy. The thread is white, but our light is very very yellow, so it looks kinda ecru. Here's a detail shot: Now it's time to work on my secret project! NEXT: crocheted bikini? (Funny story - my roommate crocheted one, but she's a beginner and stitched too loose. The holes in the top ended up being *cough* a little too large, so now she uses it to dust.) ShockToday on my tour I saw Bryan, a friend. As I said hi he held up his ipod and said, "I subscribed to your podcast!". And then I realized it. I haven't podcasted in waaaaay too long. So I'm going to fix that. ...just not tonight. Details shortly forthcoming. ^_^ Labels: Blog :: Kazen @ Always Doing 6:58 PM [+] :: :: ... 0 comments

:: Monday, July 04, 2005 :: Happy 4th!It is awesome to live two blocks from the Empire State Plaza. The fireworks show they put on was amazing! A whole bunch of pictures for you tonight: The place was packed, so we moved over near the Egg where the view was slightly obstructed, but still amazing. The Egg is the blob on the left in most of these shots. Looks like streamers, doesn't it? All of these shots are with the "fireworks" setting of my camera with a two second shutter, all hand held. And I held it steady enough so you can see the lines in the Egg in this shot! I'm so proud of that. You try and hold something still for two seconds. -_^ And now for some shots of the ground stuff. Sometimes it was like this: Other times it was more like this: All in all, it was awesome The best part? That I could walk home. :P The streets were in gridlock, people honking their horns, ambulances stuck, sirens wailing... I just walked between them to get home. Bwhahahaha. :: Kazen @ Always Doing 7:50 PM [+] :: :: ... 1 comments

Hey, Karla! Thanks for visiting my blog! I must admit, seeing your (my) name in my comment section saying things I didn't say was a little disconcerting at first! LOL But like you say, how cool to meet another "Karla with a K" as I like to say ('cause I know everyone is THINKING "C" when I say my name)
