A Sunrise Poem

The lighter shades of blue
call the crows.
"You belong North,"
they say.
Fingerbare pines and maples loose their roosts
almost as easily
as they loose the night.

Naturally, I Write

Don't really know *why* I wrote that title... it felt good and right, though.

Yes, the time stamp is accurate--it's past six am. The sun is coming up, but the city lamps are still burning yellow. It's been a while since I've seen a sunrise, and I've yet to see one from the perch of my room.

The setting for it--last day of classes before finals, websites that need finding, things that need cleaning, Mt. Dew that needs drinking, a fridge that needs cleaning, and Better Than Ezra's Desperately Wanting playing on my Launch player. Not to mention the morning star that's lingering in the East. Hang on, little buddy! I'm enjoying you.

My vacation won't really be one--I have too much work. A ten page final paper and a weekly paper for International, a ton of Japanese homework (including our first composition), not to mention all the stuff, reading, I wanted to catch up on. ~sigh~

Wow, the view is so pretty! Kirei!!! The morning star is still there, I can see the plaza appearing through the mist. Stratus clouds shroud the horizon.

Oh, darn, a 747 jumbo jet just flew across my wonderful view, ruining it. Ah, it's gone now. Good.

Across the way I can see one solitary light in State Tower--the one other soul that has been with me all night. He/she/it probably thinks I've left them, as I turned out my light a little while ago. I fully wanted to experience the coming dawn.

At moments like this I'm glad, for once, that I don't have a roommate--I'd be driving them crazy. And these are moments to be had alone.

~she looks out the window, at the dawn that is hers. To the plaza emerging from the mist, to the crows flying by, to the faint star, to every shade of blue in the sky, she says a quiet yet sincere~

Ohayou gozaimasu.

Good morning.

Additctions

Why is simply keeping up to date so addicting? Toriyama's World just redid their forum, and now I find myself on it constantly. I must keep up to date, after all! It's only manga and anime ramblings, but still, I must know what's going on! You can find the same kind of additction with current events (i.e. the latest news and findings about Columbia) or boybands or sports teams... anything really. Maybe, somehow, this is related to the urge to gather, to collect.

I like this collecting, this gathering information--it doesn't take up very much room. ^_^

No vs. Non, Furansu-go Janai

I discovered this trivial fact of the English language a couple of days ago, and have yet to find a contradiction to the rule.

Okay, there are "no smoking" and "non-smoking" signs, right? Ever think of the difference? Here it is--a "no smoking" sign designates that smoking is prohibited completely in that area/building/etc. A "non smoking" sign only occurs when there is a smoking area as well. Think of it--University buildings, "no smoking" signs. Fancy restuarants with different sections, "non smoking".

What brought this up--there are new signs by the Collins Circle LC stairways that say "non smoking area". I thought, "Shouldn't that be *no* smoking?". Then I realized the rule.

Still sounds wrong in my head though, those signs.

So I Found This Poem...

...in my notebook, and though it's not very good, I have the urge to put it here. An in progress thing, for sure.

When I wrote it I could feel its beat in my head--it progresses like a song. Each stanza has its own rhythm. I may figure out a way to set this off later (maybe label each part verse, bridge, chorus), but for now I'll leave it as is, with this little warning.

~

I got a jitter in my hand that I just can't shake
A bottle in my hand that just won't wake
A footstep in the sand that I just can't take

Help me gather the treasures of this world
The riches
Keep them from beasts and boars and fools and ghouls
The bitches

Gather them up, and take my hand
Sure, it's not paradise land
But together in hell is surely more grand
Than eternity in heaven, alone

~

In writing it over like that I find all of its faults... and strengths. I like the last stanza the best; I should find a better lead up to it.

I should also get to work. Darn.

Today's Study: Procrastination

Yup, that's the way it should be. It is Sunday, after all...

You know, I whine about how I would like an entire week to myself, but I forget that keeping busy is fun now and then. Like today--I was a happy busy. Did laundry, wrote kanji, had dinner with good friends, went to the library to "work" (getting 10,000 tokens on pogo.com in the process... hmmm, how did that happen?), went to the PAC to practice tooting my flute, ran to Elizabeth and Bhairavi's room, came back here. And what did I pick up in Elizabeth and Bhairavi's room, you ask? RPG computer games. ~grin~

If today's study is procrastination, then my time in the library was the crowning moment. I got stuff done while procrastinating! I had Ali Baba Slots (for tokens, mind you!!!) open in front of me, but I forced myself to highlight a page of (dreaded) International Urban Planning before I played. I then gave myself four pulls. If I won money, I allowed myself extra pulls, as many as the money would buy me. Everything was going well until I pulled a 10,000 token prize. I then thought up of a new mathematical system, but it was even more flawed than the first, and things quickly went downhill.

And now I have these RPG and puzzle games in front of me... Dive: the Conquest of the Silver Eye, The Seventh Guest, Beyond Time, and S.P.Q.R., whatever that is. I don't know which one I want to play first.

I know it shouldn't matter--I have a paper to write and homework to finish. But today's study is procrastination, after all. ~grin~

Figures

It just does. I wrote a nice big entry for this and what happens? It gets sucked up by the internet. Oh, well.

I don't have the heart to write it all over, so I'll use this opportunity to point to my left. ~does so~ You can see that I've been messing with the code for this blog, adding new stuff and trying to make it a little more personalized. I'll try to keep this up to date--as up to date as the rest of the blog is, anyway.

Achievement of the Day: winning the Peter Piper Competition in Acting

Moment of the Day: dusk draping over Albany while I, cozy in my bed, let it seep in

That is, when the fire alarm wasn't going off. ~grumble, grumble~

Moon Tears

February 1, 2003--

The sky's hands are always stretched out in welcome,
but today she didn't know she'd catch seven new stars.

In memory of those lost on Columbia.
