I haven't actually listened to one yet...I have a lot easier time reading something online than I do concentrating on something I have to listen to.

Motivation?

Lately I haven't felt like doing anything. Zoning out in front of my computer is the only thing I can manage. Gotta get to work, though, gotta do stuff. Having a four day weekend doesn't help, either. :P

Thinking about My Urban Eyes (I retitled the blog to match)--it's starting to look like a weekly thing, hopefully updated on Mondays. Bhairavi has a night class, so I have a few hours of uninterrupted quiet recording and editing time. ^_^

Today is exciting--going to see They Might Be Giants do a free show at Borders. I can't wait. ^_^ Going with a whole bunch of friends--and amazingly fun, "let's have an adventure" friends, to boot. We are all taking Japanese, so the convo should be especially lively.

Who knows, maybe I'll podcast about it when I get back. ^_^

Turned in my apps for study abroad last week. It's in two parts--getting accepted to go to Japan through the Study Abroad Office, then another to have a chance at some scholarship money from the East Asian Studies Department. I need both, because I am poor. -_- Hope to hear from both next week. Wish me luck!

My Urban Eyes - Freakout!

Click here to get the mp3.

It took long enough, but here's another entry! ^_^ The levels are a little loud, and some bits were clipped, so consider yourself warned. Oh, and the whappy thing is still at the end. -_- The content is good, though:

In this episode:

- Content?
- Freakout
- Donnybrook
- End Notes

Enjoy!

edit: Want to see my blog in babelfish-esque translation in Japanese? Click here! (You may need to have Japanese fonts enabled to see it, especially if you're on a non-XP machine.)

My Urban Eyes - Dream On

Yea for another ep! I was planning on doing real content today, but this came up instead. I'll just do the content next time.

If this ep doesn't have content, what does it have, you ask? A dream!

In this episode:

- Prelude to a Dream
- Dream On
- "groggy human voice"

Leave comments below and tell me what you think! Enjoy! ^_^

My Urban Eyes - Ep 1

Finally, it works! Click above to listen to the mp3 directly. I'll have a cool graphic later, but plain ol' text for today.

If you want to subscribe to the feed with an RSS feed reader that recognizes attachments (like ipodder), click on the RSS Podcast link at left. Add it to your program, and you'll get each ep as it comes out. I'll post each file in this space, as well, of course. :)

In this episode:

- "an Upstate New York accent"
- "a decent cup of tea"

I realize the levels are a little low, and that will be fixed next ep, so don't complain about it being too quiet. Do file all other complaints, comments, and otherwise below, though!

Oh! It turns out my hosting service puts the most annoying sound ever at the end of my cast with a guy whispering the name of my server. I am so sorry for that... I didn't know it was going to do it. But, it's a free service, so I guess I can't complain too much.

edit: turns out that every other rizzn podcast has a nice tone at the end, but mine is all fuzz! Why is that? Uploading the file again didn't help, so I'm clueless. Sent in a bug report, though.

Also, if you're thinking of keeping these, you may want to rename them, as the service puts a random filename extention on each. My personal file name for this one is My Urban Eyes - 001 - 02-04-05, for example.

While You Wait...

...for the audioblog/podcast to show up, here's a new photoblog for you: Here to There (liked at left). There's a new photo everyday of something subway related. I love the subway, and a lot of these photos are more people-oriented than most photoblogs. I'm a fan.

Talk About a Downer

So just now I finished tweaking my first ep of my new podcast, went to go put it on the server... and the server is down until noon tomorrow. >_< I'll IM it to anyone who asks (you know where to find me)... just a bummer overall. Hopefully the technical end will sort itself out tomorrow.

Already gave you a little bit of feedback, but figured I should say a little more. The recording sounds great. Very clear, just a little quiet. Again, you have such a pleasant narrative voice. Really great ease of utterance, too. Makes me wonder if you made yourself a script or rehearsed it a few times. :) I have to say I hardly notice your accent, even though you always make such a big deal out of it.

Your tea story is cute, and I'm proud of you. Tea isn't so so straightforward. You know, you may just want to consider measuring stuff (including brewing time), until you develop a better feel for how much of everything you need. If you like milk tea, you may want to try a good Earl Grey. It's a blend of black teas infused with bergamot, which makes it really nice and aromatic. I like it with just a little milk and honey. The tea is nice enough to stand on its own, so just a little of each for accent.

Anyway, I think it's a great start, and I'm definitely looking forward to your future episodes.

Congratulations, dear. :)

yours is truly one of the better-sounding first podcasts that i've heard. there's only just a little noise-glitch at the very end. your voice is relaxed, clear, and nice to listen to... keep it up!

a good cup of tea is important. i still take mine without cream or sugar, but my baboo occaisionally makes a cup like this that, honestly, i have seriously considered converting upon sipping.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

If you're talking about the whapping noise at the end... that's totally NOT ME. My free host, rizzn.com, puts that on the end of my cast. There's a guy saying "rizzn.com" somewhere in there if you can bear to listen. I'm not a fan, but the service is free, you know? ^_^

If you know a better free one let me know! ^_^

Read and Be Mad

Much thanks to Elizabeth for the link (find her at right ^_^). A snippet of this article:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The way many high school students see it, government censorship of newspapers may not be a bad thing, and flag burning is hardly protected free speech.

It turns out the First Amendment is a second-rate issue to many of those nearing their own adult independence, according to a study of high school attitudes released Monday.

...

When told of the exact text of the First Amendment, more than one in three high school students said it goes "too far" in the rights it guarantees. Only half of the students said newspapers should be allowed to publish freely without government approval of stories.

Thank you, Republicans, for scaring the shit out of our kids with things like the Patriot Act and censorship of our airwaves (via the controversal cases of Stern and etc). Now high schoolers feel that they've been given too many rights--the very rights this country was founded on and peoples on the other side of the world are (literally) killing for. Great.

LoL. We posted about the same thing. Different articles, but the same basic topic. Basic inalienable rights. I didn't actually write anything though. Just linked this:

Writing Assignment: Kill Someone.

Then write their obituary. Okay, okay, I guess step one is optional.

We could write about anyone, living or dead. If the person is already dead, however, you could not grab anything from previously written obits.

I went to Wikipedia and punched in some names of interesting people to write an obit about--Jerry Seinfeld, Tom Hanks, and so on. Out of the people I entered, Jon Stewart had the most info. ^_^ I wasn't going to write about him in order to avoid being fan girl but... I had no choice? :P

I think it came out well, but we'll see what the prof has to say about it.

No other real news... just a ton of reading (reference the previous post) and trying to get this audio blog up and running. Here's hoping!

Comments:
News stations keep constantly running obits on famous people 'just in case'. That's how you can get such a 'well thought' story in seconds. A while back something got messed up at one of the news websites, and some still-living peoples obits got released online.

Freaky stuff! Someone in class mentioned the obits being released... "gross error" doesn't seem to fit it, but almost does, hehe.

/me writes an obit for Aaron next! ~wiiiink~

Instantly Behind

Ouchie moment today. Went to Urban Design, which I love. Pipkin talks about how there is new stuff up on the website... including a new reading list. Turns out the reading list we got before, two textbook chapters and four articles, should be done by now. He only mentioned two of the six readings in class, so they were all I read.

I went from on schedule with the readings to 100 pages behind in three seconds. Great.
